Ten years ago, I was dining with relatives in upstate New York, while they sang the praises of Eliot Spitzer, who was about to be elected governor. One of my cousins referred to him as "Mr. Clean." I responded "No, he's not." Spitzer had stepped on a lot of toes, wrecking hundreds of careers in various industries, and I couldn't help believing someone would find skeletons in his closet.

Spitzer's fall from grace came when it was revealed he'd engaged in an illegal banking practice called "shadowing" to conceal $80,000 in payments to a NY escort service. His resignation was followed by multi million dollar lawsuits from individuals he'd railroaded during his "cleanup" campaign, after their convictions were overturned.

The misogynist clearly hasn't mended his ways. He's been accused of choking a $5,000 a night hooker in a New York hotel room, according to a report from the New York Post. Spitzer had apparently been having a relationship with 25 year old Svetlana Zakharova Travis for a couple of years. Travis told police Spitzer became enraged, then pushed and choked her when she told him she was returning to Russia. She declined to press charges, and boarded a plane to Moscow. I have to wonder what kind of activities they were engaging in at those prices.
