If you're like me, you often take ibuprofen (Advil) or naproxen sodium (Aleve) when minor aches and pains strike. It turns out that taking these drugs, called NSAIDS (non - steroidal anti - inflammatory drugs) can increase a person's risk of stroke or heart attack as early as the first week of treatment. The FDA is even increasing its warning labels on over the counter pain relievers. Acetaminophen (Tylenol) and aspirin are not NSAIDs, but taking too much can be risky as well.

FDA researchers encourage people to read drug fact labels carefully, take the minimum effective dose for the shortest duration, and avoid taking more than one NSAID pain reliever at a time. Click here for more information.
