My mom and dad smoked like chimneys from an early age till the day they died.  After several heart attacks, doctors told me that my mother's heart was that of a person 20 years older than her actual age.  And that if she didn't stop smoking, the end result would not be good.  And the doctors were right.

I tried everything to get my mom to stop smoking.  Everything.  She pretended to stop, but every time the kids and I paid them a visit, we were left standing outside while she yelled, "Just a minute".  We could hear her spraying the house with air freshener.  It was hilarious, really.

My mother and I would inevitably end up talking about her cigarette use each time I went to visit.  And inevitably, it would make things tense.  There was always one thing she'd say that would shut me up though.  She'd say, "When you stop stressing, I'll stop smoking".  She would be quick to remind me that stress kills, just like smoking does.

So tonight, my message is one sentence and hopefully will help you deal with stress from this day forward.
