We received this update from the Louisiana Department of Transportation at 5:08pm 1/10/13, concerning state highway closures/water situations:
Effective immediately, the following road closures and high water notifications are in place due to heavy rains.
The Louisiana National Guard's 256th Infantry Brigade Combat Team has sent a truck and two soldiers to help with evacuations in Crowley.
The 225th Engineer Brigade has sent a high-water truck to Marksville, and units are on standby statewide
Sandbags are available for self-bagging as of 6:30 this morning at these locations:
Many people associate the end-of-the-year holidays with colder temps, and most post cards that you can buy about Christmas and New Year's include some reference to snow; whether it be a snow man, snow balls, a snow-covered village, or CJ making yellow snow - most of them contain some reference to snow.
This amazing video is a time lapse of the sun setting behind a deck of clouds underneath the observatory at Mount Washington, New Hampshire. (That white fluffy stuff in the middle of the picture is not snow or waves, it's clouds!)
If you didn't make gumbo this weekend, today's the day! Acadiana woke up to some serious rain this morning, and cooler temps are soon to follow. KATC TV 3 reports that these storms will move through the Acadiana area by late morning, clearing the way for cooler temperatures this afternoon and tonight
Are you cold-natured or warm-natured? Cold-natured people tend to do better in warmer climates, and it seems that the thought of 60-degrees-or-colder sends them running for thicker socks. Warm-natured, on the other hand (Steve Wiley), can wear shorts to work in 50-degree weather and put the thermostat on 68 when he gets there.
Well, the power is out in parts of Carencro, which is the closest we have come to having a "snow day" in a long time.
Steve Wiley recently posted a story about hamburgers, asking how much you would be willing to pay for one. This story is about some kids that send a burger into space: not aboard the Soyuz, or the Space Shuttle, not on the International Space Station, but aboard a specially-designed platform, hanging from a helium-filled balloon.
