Portions of Louisiana are under a Winter Weather Advisory beginning later today and extending into Tuesday morning. Fortunately for those of us that don't care for slipping and sliding on icy roadways that threat appears to be confined to well north of Acadiana.

That doesn't mean that it won't get really cold later tonight and Tuesday and that doesn't mean that you won't see a few snow flurries or hear the sound of light sleet falling on your rooftop. However, most of us will just hear the pitter patter of a very cold rainfall.

Forecasters with the National Weather Service in Lake Charles believe the most significant threat of wintry precipitation will be from the Alexandria area north. But persons living north of I-10 could see falling snow or sleet at some time during the next 24 to 36 hour period. Accumulations are expected to be nonexistent at least from I-10 north to U.S. Highway 190.

Almost all of us in Acadiana will experience a significant drop in temperature during the next 24 to 36 hour period. The forecast High in Lafayette is expected to be 67 degrees today. For Tuesday the high temperature is expected to be 47 degrees.

Skies should clear out quickly during the day on Tuesday with the passage of the cold front that is bringing the threat of winter weather to the state. The remainder of the week should feature seasonable temperatures with a chance of showers returning by Thursday.
