Waitr Drops ‘Hourly’, Moves Drivers To ‘Contract’ Status

Last week, Waitr laid off over 100 employees; this week, they moved drivers from hourly status to contract status.

According to reports from The Advocate, this change could affect as many as 13,000 people who drive for the food delivery company nationwide. The company sent an email to employees, saying that the change would provide drivers with "benefits above and beyond" what they are currently offered; drivers that spoke with The Advocate aren't buying it.

One driver who was interviewed for the story said that he is looking into other options for employment.

Drivers will now have to agree to terms that limit their ability to file class-action lawsuits against the company and waive their right to disputes with Waitr.

At one time, the company's stock was almost $13 per share; yesterday, it closed at $0.32 per share.
