Volunteers with the Acadiana Chapter of the American Red Cross spent time this weekend once helping out people with getting smoke alarms installed in their homes.

It's all part of the Sound the Alarm initiative to make sure that homes that are not equipped with smoke alarms get them.

During the past several weekends, volunteers have been visiting homes in Lafayette, Broussard, Scott and other areas to help install smoke alarms.

The volunteers were able to install 1,900 in fifteen different communities.

The obvious goal is to reduce the incidents of fire injuries and deaths associated with fires.
