The coronavirus pandemic has been extremely hard on so many around the country, and it looks like an ending is nowhere in sight. So many businesses have been affected, and none more so than those that depend on blood donations.  Vitalant Blood Center in Lafayette has announced that they are  partnering up with Waitr food delivery service for a two week drive to boost blood donations in our area. Starting today, Monday, October 19th, and going through Monday, November 2, anyone who gives blood will receive a coupon that allows them to get a free delivery next time they use Waitr. Donors will also get a free mask to help in the fight against COVID-19.

Already this fall over 800 school blood drives have been cancelled, and this has resulted in a whopping 27,000 potential uncollected donations. Blood donors are desperately needed to make up for the shortfall of thousands of uncollected donations at cancelled blood drives during the Covid-19 period.

Vitalant’s South Division Vice President, James Dugger says “We’re grateful for this partnership and the incentives Waitr is providing to encourage these communities to come together in supporting this mission and to recognize the immediate need for plasma, platelet and blood donations Every donation can impact individuals in a life-affirming manner. Donors literally make this mission possible.”

If you would like to make an appointment to donate blood, you can stop by their Blood Center at 1503 Bertrand Drive in Lafayette, call 877-25VITAL or go online at vitalant.org.
