Congratulations to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette Class of 2020! Not quite the last semester some had hoped for, but you made it through all the same. And to commemorate your accomplishments through the coronavirus pandemic, you are getting two different ceremonies this year. One on Friday, May 15th, and another, which will broadcast by local media, on Saturday, May 16th. Officials are saying that Spring graduates will be welcome to walk at ceremonies for summer or fall later this year.

According to an email sent to graduates from University President Joeseph Savoie “None of us could have anticipated the extraordinary events that have made it impossible to hold the General Assembly and college ceremonies next month at the Cajundome and other locations as planned. The COVID-19 pandemic we are experiencing has changed nearly every aspect of our lives, including time-honored University ceremonies such as commencement."

You can view the online ceremonies for all eight academic colleges and the Graduate School HERE starting at 10:00 am CST on Friday, May 15th, and they will include 'welcome and congratulatory messages from administrators, college deans and student leaders'. Degrees will also be given out on Friday during this ceremony. The University is asking graduates to provide photos, videos, and quotes, and those will be posted along with the name, degree, and major for each graduate.

On Saturday, May 16th, another commencement celebration will be broadcast on local television stations, and according to KATC will include addresses by UL Lafayette President, Dr. E. Joseph Savoie, Provost, Dr. Jaimie Hebert, SGA President, Ms. Rachel Lautigar and Executive Director of the Alumni Association, Mrs. Jennifer LeMeunier.

The schedule for TV broadcast is 4:30 PM for KATC, and 6:30 PM for KLFY, KADN, and KLAF. More information from the Spring 2020 commencement can be found on the University's website here.
