31-year-old Christopher Stephen Mayeaux of Ville Platte is behind bars after he allegedly followed someone in his vehicle and shot that person in the back.

The alleged incident happened on Tuesday in Evangeline Parish. The victim pulled over on Highway 29 and called an ambulance after getting shot. He’s now at the Lafayette General Hospital.

After it was determined Mayeaux was the suspect, St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s deputies, along with the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office, went to his home in Evangeline Parish to speak with him about the incident.

“Mr. Mayeaux would not exit his residence nor would he comply with any verbal instruction by law enforcement officers at the scene,” says St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz. “A warrant was then issued for his arrest.”

Mayeaux was arrested the next day and has been booked into the St. Landry Parish Jail on charges of attempted second degree murder and carrying of a firearm by convicted felon. His bond is set at $107,500.00.
