UL’s Simone Fields Closing In On Top Ten In Career Scoring
Simone Fields, a senior member of the Louisiana Ragin' Cajun women's basketball team, is closing in on a special number.
After scoring 6 points in Louisiana's 67-47 win over Alcorn St. back on December 20, Fields now has 1.084 career scoring points, making her just the 12th women's basketball player in UL history to accomplish the feat.
Not only that, but Fields is now only 6 points shy of breaking into the top ten in career scoring in school history.
Yolanda Jones ranks at #10, right ahead of Fields, with 1,090 career points, with Alyson Habetz in the #9 spot, with 1,192.
Fields should crack the top ten on Friday, when the Cajuns open Sun Belt Conference play in Little Rock, Arkansas against UALR.
A native of San Antonio, Fields, a 4-year starter, scored 225 points in her freshman year, and 312 in her sophomore year, before pouring in 535 points last year as a junior.
This season, through 12 games, Fields has scored 112 points.
Barring injury, Fields should finish her career in the top five in career scoring, as she is only 201 points short of accomplishing that.
In addition, Fields, a Preseason All-Sun Belt Conference First-Team selection, has compiled 596 career rebounds, which also puts her into the UL top ten in that department.
Again, barring injury, it's likely that Fields will finish her career with a top five total in that department as well.
Playing with such outstanding players as Keke Veal, Kia Wilridge, and Jaylyn Gordon throughout much of her time at Louisiana, Fields has kind of flown under the radar.
Still, statistics will supply evidence that she is one of the top ten players in program history.
