The issue of traffic cameras across the country has been extremely controversial for years now, and their emergence in Lafayette was no different. Lafayette Consolidated Government announced last week that it would begin filing suit against traffic camera violators who have not paid fees. So far, LCG is suing two individuals and one company, though the suits are on hold until the laws surrounding the fines are clarified.

LCG reports that there are over 12, 000 traffic camera violations with an attendant cost of upwards of $3 million.

I don't personally like the idea of speed and red light cameras primarily because I feel they do infringe on privacy to a certain extent. However, there are visible and clearly-written signs announcing the presence of the cameras and it would seem that they have done some good with regards to crashes in Lafayette.

Should Lafayette Consolidated Government use its resources to sue traffic camera violators? Let us know on Facebook!
