This Exotic Pet Is Legal In The State Of Louisiana
If you want something more out of the ordinary than a cat or dog, this might be the pet for you.
You probably know there exotic animals you can't have as pets in Louisiana, like big cats or chimpanzees. An exception to the Louisiana state code that bans these animals according to PetHelpful.com is the genet, a 'small mammal that have a fox-like nose and face, with a cat-like body and a lemur-like tail.' The site says that genets don't particularly like to be held or given a lot of affection and that they are 'opportunistic eaters.' If that sounds like the kind of pet you'd want running around your house, you'll need to be prepared to do a lot of searching to find one and plunk down between $9 - 1400.
Might be easier and cheaper to just get another cat or dog.
