According to a live stream from WDSU, there is an apparent fire at the Hard Rock construction site in New Orleans.

A spokesperson for the city says that,

burning roofing material in the upper part of the Hard Rock site is currently creating heavy black smoke in the area. The New Orleans Fire Department is responding. At present, there is minimal concern that the fire can spread beyond the Hard Rock site.

The city has advised residents to avoid the area due to heavy smoke and has suggested that nearby residents and businesses shut off external air take and air conditioners to limit smoke being brought indoors.

NOFD says their crews have gotten as close as they can possibly get to the fire and their strategy is to let the fire burn itself out—a process that could take hours.

WDSU is currently working to get details and we will update this developing story when more details are available.
