Something important to know before trick-or-treat on Halloween is The Teal Pumpkin Project. The Teal Pumpkin Project was started to help kids with allergies or other conditions to enjoy the festivities of Halloween safely.  It also raises awareness for food allergies.

If you can’t buy a teal pumpkin, then simply paint a pumpkin teal. Place that pumpkin outside of your home and it will let trick-or-treaters know that you have more than just candy for those who have allergies.  In a separate bowl, you can provide things like glow sticks, slime, play dough, plastic toys, pencils, etc.

According to the CDC, one in thirteen children in the United States has a food allergy. These children affected by food allergies have to be extremely careful as food allergies can be life-altering and life-threatening.

Many local business, including the ENT practice of Dr. Lisa B. David and Dr. Brytton B. Eldredge gets involved by doing Teal Pumpkin decorating contests and educating Acadiana on the importance of The Teal Pumpkin Project.
