Strange Statue At St Mary Magdalen In Abbeville

I grew up in Abbeville, and attended St. Mary Magdalen Church many times, but never went near the rectory, so I didn't see this until recently.

To access the rectory parking lot, you have to enter from the side, by the eye doctor's office.  On the wall of the "ministry building", there stands statue: at first glance, the statue looks like one of the characters from the Bible.

Here's a picture of the full statue.

Notice what is on the statue's right foot.  What is that thing?

Upon closer inspection, it seems that there is some sort of devil on the statue's foot!

Can anyone explain this?
