Forecasters with the Storm Prediction Center in Norman Oklahoma are suggesting that most of South Louisiana should get ready for a rowdy round of storms during the day on Wednesday. While our part of the country won't be the most likely hot spot for severe storms it is highly probable that strong storms approaching severe limits will pass across the area by Wednesday night.

The potential severe weather event is being sparked by low pressure and cold front that is currently situated over the panhandles of Oklahoma and Texas. This system will pull an abundance of Gulf of Mexico moisture onshore and that should help provide enough instability in the atmosphere to kick off a round or two of storms.

Almost the entire state of Louisiana will be in the slight risk category for severe storms during the day on Wednesday. Now, we can't rule out a shower or a thunderstorm in today's forecast, although the outlook for strong storms in the area is not likely.

As of now, forecasters believe our best chance of showers will come this morning, mainly before noon. Then we will get a bit of a break in any falling precipitation for the afternoon and evening hours. By tomorrow, the threat of rain will still be minimal in the morning hours but will increase rapidly as the day moves on and the weather system gets closer to the state.

After a bumpy Wednesday afternoon weather conditions should calm down during the overnight hours. On Thursday skies should begin to clear and that will usher in a nice stretch of great weather for the area. In fact, skies will be mostly clear from Thursday through Sunday with temperatures near seasonal normals for the period.
