Second Harvest Food Bank to Hold Drive-Thru Food Distribution

Second Harvest Food Bank will hold a drive-thru food distribution this Saturday, November 21, 2020 at the Martin Luther King Center located at 309 Cora Street in Lafayette for families experiencing hardship.

Staff and volunteers will be distributing fresh and shelf-stable food items, as well as kids' meals between 9:00 am and 11:00 am to anyone needing food relief.

Lafayette Sheriff Department along with the National Guard will also be on-site to help distribute food and direct traffic.

“This year has been a difficult one for all and more families than ever are facing empty plates this holiday season,” said Brittany Bowie, Impact Manager for Second Harvest Food Bank. “We are hopeful that this food distribution will provide some relief for families as we head into the holiday season.”

This food drive is just one of many long-term efforts to assist residents in the wake of devastation across south Louisiana as a result of the pandemic and multiple storms.

Since the coronavirus emergency began in March, Second Harvest has distributed more than 37 million pounds of food and supplies to residents across twenty-three parishes of south Louisiana. That is more than twice as much as what they delivered during the same period a year ago.

Second Harvest staff, volunteers, and community partners have also distributed more than four million pounds of supplies to recent hurricane survivors in southwest Louisiana.
