Rare April Tropical Storm Forms In The Central Atlantic

Tropical Storm Arlene is only the second tropical storm to form during the month of April between the years of 1851 - 2016.

KATC reports that Tropical Storm Arlene developed in the central Atlantic,  becoming the first tropical storm of the 2017 Atlantic hurricane season.

KATC Chief Meteorologist Rob Perillo says Arlene is packing 45 MPH winds and will likely be absorbed by a larger frontal trough on Friday.

Rob also says that while Arlene is the first April system in the Atlantic since 2003 and only the second since 1851, its existence doesn't mean that the tropics will necessarily be busy later this summer and fall.
