Photos From Inside The Most Iconic Club in Lafayette, Louisiana
When it comes to dance clubs in Lafayette, I don't know if there was ever a more talked about club than The Plaza on Johnston St.
People from across the southern region rushed to this club on the weekends to not only socialize but to hear some of the best dance music in the country.
The original Plaza was the home of great dance music that you couldn't find anywhere else. and the venue had multiple dance floors for its guests.
When you walked into the club you were greeted with a bar, then as you went around the bar you entered the massive club, with exceptional sound and lighting.
When you walked into the Plaza you felt the bass, and you knew you were about to experience a night there like nowhere else.
I recall arriving at this iconic club on multiple occasions and there were always hundreds of people waiting to enter. That's how popular this dance club was.
One of my favorite stories about the Plaza was told by the owner of the club, Shannon Wilkerson, when the artist Prince showed up there after a concert.
If you've never heard the story, you will enjoy this.
Now, let's take a look at the inside of this iconic club. As you'll see in the photos here, The Plaza was a multi-level venue and people showed up there to DANCE.
So, relive this club through these photos and if you know of anyone who loved the original Plaza in Lafayette, be sure to share this story with them.
I am certain that they'll enjoy these photos.
Sadly, this magnificent club has been closed for many years now and the building that was once so welcoming now looks like this.
Check out what is left of the building that was once The Plaza.
