Texas and Louisiana Parents Should Put This in Kid’s Pocket For School
(KTDY) - School is back in session, and for many kids, it's their first time away from their parents.
Dropping your kids off at school for the first time can be an emotional experience, not just for the kids, but for some parents as well.
With that said, there are a few things parents can do to ease their child's anxiety for the first few weeks of school.
I recall walking out of the school years ago when we dropped our kids off, and I was emotional too. It's not that you don't trust those who work at the school, you hope that your kid is okay and that they can overcome the feeling of loneliness.
After speaking to a few friends of mine who are teachers, they suggested something that I never thought of, and it's what you can send your child to school with as they get accustomed to the new school year and experience.
For kids who have never been away from their parents (Having never been to daycare), they lose a sense of security as soon as you leave them at school for the first time, and that's when this simple tactic can benefit your child while they're at school.
How to Improve School Experience
Teachers said that students who struggle to be away from their parents should have a small family photo in their pocket each day to start the school year. This allows the child to pull out the image when they are feeling alone.
Seeing their parents in the photo can ease their feelings and help them get through the day, which can be particularly helpful when they feel lonely.
This simple practice for a few weeks can ease the separation factor for kids, and also relieve parents as they know that their kids are transitioning well into the new routine.

So, in the days ahead, if you notice that your child is having separation anxiety while at school, try putting a small family photo in their pocket and see if it helps. Please note that you should notify your child's teacher before sending them to school with the picture.
If the teacher is aware of the photo in your child's possession, they can encourage your child to pull the image out when they are feeling alone and sad.
All of us here hope that you and your children have a great school year and that you all make so many wonderful memories.
For those with kids in elementary school, enjoy the years because before you know it, they'll be ordering their caps and gowns for high school graduation.
