Youth soccer is in full swing across much of South Louisiana this Fall, and as I was sitting on the sideline a couple of days ago, I made a few interesting observations.

For starters, all the kids playing soccer seem to truly love the sport and are really enjoying the season. With the weather changing and finally cooling down, the experience is much more pleasurable for the parents, coaches, and kids.

And then there are the parents and grandparents who attend the matches. Sadly, in recent years we have seen some poor behavior from parents at various kids' sporting events, but that isn't the case in Lafayette Parish.

You see, I am the type of parent who doesn't take youth sports too seriously. I believe in letting the coach do his or her job, and I just sit and watch the game or match. On the other hand, some parents are way more involved, and that's fine too.

Two Types of Parents at Kids Soccer Games

So, a few days ago, I noticed two types of parents at soccer matches:

  • Those who never say much
  • Those who stand and yell instructions

Which parent are you at your kids' games or matches?

You can reveal what type of fan or parent you are in the comments, but as we talk about parents at youth sports games, I must applaud the behavior I've seen so far.

While some are way more into the games or matches than I am, I've never seen a parent at Moore Park go overboard by attacking or questioning the referees or coaches. The kids have fun, and so do the parents, and that's how it should be.

In conclusion, I just wanted to take a moment to applaud the parents I've seen at their kids' soccer matches this season and say THANK YOU. As parents, we pave the way for our kids, and it's been so refreshing to see parents involved without going overboard and ruining their kids' fun or experience.

Let's keep cheering for our kids at soccer matches and keep being good role models for those looking up to us.

Seven Places to Entertain Kids on A Stormy Day in Acadiana

On a rainy day when the kids are out of school or over the weekend, they can get very bored or very anxious while indoors. However, there are a few places you can bring them for some indoor fun.

One time it was storming, and our daughter and her friends were getting very anxious in the house, so we looked up places to take them to help them release some of their built-up energy.

You know that on any given day, it can storm in South Louisiana, so you may want to keep these places in mind when your kids get "cabin fever" as the rain comes down.
