Oldest House for Sale in Acadiana (1886) is Just $150,000
According to my totally non-scientific research on the Zillow website, the oldest house for sale in Acadiana, built in 1886, is listed at just $150,000.
The house has most recently been used as a law firm's office, but it could be "converted back into a residential home".
It's a beautiful structure and, with a little TLC and elbow grease, it would make a fine home.
The house is on the corner of South Main and West Cherry Streets in Opelousas and, according to the listing on Zillow, the house was built in 1886 and is of solid cypress construction.
For the past 30 years, the house has been used as the offices of a law firm (as evidenced by the reference books in the photos and the existence of an "EXIT" sign above the doorway).
The Zillow listing calls the house an "incredible opportunity" because so many things can be done with the structure. Some of the website's recommendations were another law firm office, a bed and breakfast, a salon or a retail shop, or turning it back into a residence.
The structure is listed as a 4-bedroom, 2-bath house with 2,900 sq ft under roof. It has high ceilings, real wood floors, and 6 fireplaces. SIX!!
Let's take a virtual tour of the building.
