This Thursday, April 25, has been proclaimed "Get on Board Day" by Lafayette Mayor-President Joel Robideaux as our community will help to highlight the benefits that buses bring to our community.

Many communities across the country participate in the same awareness program as for many people, it is their primary mode of transportation.

Lafayette Mayor/President Joel Robideaux says

Public transportation is an essential part of a successful community. Lafayette Transit System is working to improve the experience of its riders with modern technology. We hope that our 'Get on Board Day' will encourage potential riders to participate in our public transit and experience for themselves this eco-friendly and convenient transportation alternative.

Robideaux says he really wanted to highlight the benefits of the Lafayette Transit System during the week of Festival International so that local and visitors can learn about the various ways that LTS impacts our community.

Lafayette Consolidated Government Transit and Parking Manager Michael Mitchell adds,

Our annual support of Festival International attendees is a great way to introduce or re-introduce the community to Lafayette Transit System.

There is a $10 parking fee at Cajun Field, but the shuttle itself is free, and it will take you dowtown to enjoy the festival. You can catch a shuttle ride every fifteen minutes.

Avoid having to try to find a parking space downtown, just go to Cajun Field, and you can hop on the shuttle. For a schedule of the shuttles, click here.

In a press release, LCG officials say

Public transit offers economic opportunity and powers community growth by driving economic development and revitalizing neighborhoods. In recent years, LTS has worked to modernize the bus system for riders with real-time bus tracking. This provides riders with up to date information on bur arrival times and ideal routes. LTS has made improvements and enhancements, increasing public interest and participation on city buses by providing user-friendly, technology access for transit riders including free Wi-Fi on buses. More technological improvements are on the way for LTS.
