In an effort to combat sex trafficking, Louisiana has set the minimum age for marriage at 16.

Personally, I didn't realize that before today, Louisiana did not have a a minimum age for marriage. Before today, if you were 16 or 17, you needed parental consent to wed, while if you were under 16, you would need a judges approval.

After the new minimum age law that went into affect today, you can no longer get married until you're 16 in our state.

Supporters of this new law looked at it as a way to combat sex trafficking. Louisiana Radio Network explained this the best by saying, "Those in favor of the age limit insisted that the law would be a step toward combating human trafficking, adding many of those involved with the crime will use marriage to cloak the activity."

How do you feel about this new law?
