Marginal Risk Of Severe Weather For Acadiana Thursday
After a good soaking and a significant cool down over the weekend South Louisiana residents have enjoyed some rather quiet and calm weather the past few days. That is likely to change beginning later today and tonight but especially during the day on Thursday.
A frontal system is approaching the area from the west. That system combined with a low-pressure system over North Texas will bring rain chances up by early Thursday morning. The Storm Prediction Center has placed the entire state of Louisiana under the marginal category as far as the risk of severe weather is concerned.
What that means is that forecasters do not anticipate a widespread severe weather event but the potential for heavy rain and thunderstorms is likely. The timing on the forecast puts the heaviest shower activity in the heart of Acadiana during your workday. In fact, the heaviest showers and storms could come right around lunchtime if the forecast timing holds true.
Rainfall potential with this storm is expected to be about an inch to almost two inches in some locales. However, most of us won't see nearly that much rain. The system should begin to exit the area by late Thursday.
Once the system has pushed out of the area that should usher in cloudy, colder, and quite windy conditions for Friday. Temperatures on Friday might struggle to get out of the 40-degree range. However, conditions are expected to moderate into the weekend.
