New Orleans Has a Powerful Police Presence for Mardi Gras
A press release from the New Orleans Mayor's Office dated February 2 states that everyone in the New Orleans Police Department will be working through Wednesday, February 18.
The New Orleans Police Department (NOPD), in coordination with NOHSEP and local, state, and federal partners, has implemented a comprehensive public safety plan for the Mardi Gras season. NOPD will operate at 100 percent staffing during parades, supported by a layered security posture designed to manage large crowds and protect parade routes, the French Quarter, and surrounding areas.
The city of New Orleans even has a SEAR I rating, meaning there will be more police presence in certain areas and a soft closure of Bourbon Street.
