Y'all, I'm like a kid in a candy store with this one: The Acadiana Center for the Arts (ACA) presents Lyle Lovett and His Large Band at the Heymann Performing Arts Center on August 13, 2019.

Along with the band, Lovett will certainly bring his dry wit and sense of humor (if you've never seen one of his shows, you'll know that this man makes the most of pregnant pauses). From "This Old Porch" and "If  I  Had A Boat" to "Church" and "(One-Eyed) Fiona", Lovett blends his amazing guitar style with lyrics that either grab you by the heart or make you get up and move.

A true professional, unrelenting gentleman, brilliant songwriter, and purveyor of all that is good in the world, Lovett's show is one NOT to miss.

A great song is a song that makes you think, that communicates the emotion and that turns listening to the song into an emotional experience. - Lyle Lovett, New York Times, July 14, 1996

When people try to categorize Lovett's music, there's almost always a caveat included in the description. "It's Country music, but not your typical Country music" or "It's Folk music, but different". Some of the categories Lovett's songs fit in include Country, Folk, Gospel, Western, Love, Comedy, Quiet, Loud, Fast, Slow, Cowboy, East Texas (should I continue??). In other words, there's no single description for his music - well, maybe just one: Great!

At the time of this writing, the presale is underway, and you must have the presale code (available with an ACA membership).

Esquire magazine, in 2006 after awarding him an "Esky" for "Surest Thing", said this about Lovett:

The secret of Lyle Lovett's endurance comes down to the three C's: class, charisma and consistency... In the studio and on stage with his giant orchestra, he's spent two decades gracefully matching genuine songcraft with A-list musicianship - Esquire, 2006

Not only is Lovett the quintessential musician and bandleader, but he is also a snazzy dresser: Esquire recognized him with the "Best-Dressed Lifetime Achievement" award.

There aren't many artists' CDs that I can just pop into the player and listen through to the end, but Lyle is one that fits into that category for me. I am looking forward to the show.
