Disciplinary action is being taken, after an ugly incident involving college softball programs from Louisiana and Texas.

11 of the 23 players from the Lamar State College Port Arthur team have been suspended for two games following an off-campus confrontation with members of the LSU-Eunice softball team on Tuesday of last week.

The disciplinary action was handed down by Lamar State College Port Arthur athletic director Scott Street, after an investigation into the incident revealed that members of the LSU-E team had traveled to Port Arthur, hours after the teams had played a double header in Eunice on Tuesday, a twinbill that LSU-E swept.

Police said in the statement that the confrontation took place off campus in Port Arthur and that no charges were filed.

The players suspended will be required to perform 40 hours of community service

LSU Eunice is investigating the incident, and will serve suspensions pending the outcome.

The LSPA statement on the incident, and the suspensions, is as follows:

"Based on the investigative findings, members of the LSU-E team traveled to Port Arthur to confront members of the LSCPA team," the statement reads. "That confrontation took place off-campus in Port Arthur. The two teams had played in a doubleheader in Eunice, La., earlier in the day Tuesday, March 21."

"This release serves as the official statement for the College. No further comment will be made."
