Louisiana’s Mackerel Season Ending
Commercial fishing is one of Louisiana's most important industries. The season for one type of fish ends this weekend. AP reports, the commercial fishing season for mackerel will officially close Saturday (Jan. 21) at noon. The Louisiana department of Wildlife & Fisheries set a quota of 1.07 million lbs. for the western Gulf of Mexico. Much of the haul will be shipped to the northeastern US. The federal season ended in mid October.
