Louisiana Trying To Recover $26 Million After Accidentally Sending Out ‘Double’ Tax Returns

The state is currently trying to get back $26 million in 'accidental' tax returns.

According to WAFB, Louisiana accidentally paid double tax refunds for approximately 66,000 taxpayers. Jacques Berry is the Division of Administration spokesperson and says a file ran "abnormally," causing the refunds to double up. The error was discovered earlier this week (Mar. 13) and the state is in the process of trying to recover the money.

Most refunds were sent by direct deposit and banks have been contacted to reverse the accidental deposits. Berry says anyone with extra returns may not want to spend the extra money because those funds are being "backed out."

Anyone who received a larger refund than what they are due is encouraged to not spend the cash.
