Louisiana Woman Allegedly Steals Own Car While Being Repossessed
(Port Allen, Louisiana) - A woman in Louisiana was arrested after she allegedly took her car from a tow truck driver as it was being repossessed.
WBRZ reports that Rhonda "Razzberry" Franklin was arrested after an investigation into a March 23 incident.
While the car she owns was being towed, she was allowed in to retrieve her belongings, and that's when she backed the car up and took off.
In the video, which was shared by the Baton Rouge news station, you can hear the truck driver scream to her that what she was doing was illegal and that she'd be going to jail.
Well, as it turns out, Franklin did go to jail, and she has been bailed out. According to WBRZ, Franklin is facing a charge of one count of theft of a motor vehicle.
The agent who allowed her to return to the BMW being repossessed had lowered the car to reposition it and strap the rear tires when Franklin was allowed in to retrieve her goods.
When Can Vehicless Be Repossessed in Louisiana
According to the Louisiana Legislature, creditors can repossess vehicles without permission or judicial proceedings, and that usually occurs after two missed payments.
Agents cannot enter a secure location to repossess the vehicle, but may take the vehicle if it is out in the open. Lenders must send a Notice of Repossession to your last known address, but are not required to tell you when your vehicle may be repossessed.
The bizarre incident from Port Allen was captured on a camera mounted on the tow truck, as you can see below. What a wild scene.
