(Baton Rouge, Louisiana) - Students recently returned to the campus at LSU, and just as some were settling in, others took to the streets in the form of a stampede.

In a video shared on social media, you see what appears to be hundreds of people running through West Chimes Street, just outside the gates of LSU, as some shout that there was a shooting in the area.

A lot of people started to congregate on the street that night, and sadly, it soon turned into complete chaos, and now those who live in the area want answers.

WAFB reports that eyewitnesses said there was a lot of pushing and shoving, and those in vehicles got stuck in the chaos.

The Baton Rouge news station spoke with some who live just outside the campus, and some say the noise and crowds are coming from a local hookah lounge and music spot for adults, The Lotus.

Stampede Outside of LSU Campus

One resident told WAFB that on the weekends there's a huge police presence in the area, but during the week there aren't as many police in the area.

Some along West Chimes St. noted that, with more people in the area since students returned and the upcoming LSU football season just days away, they hope police can get control of the area, as it can pose a danger to those visiting or living on the LSU campus.

Here's a video of the chaos near LSU, and it is hard to tell whether those running through the streets are LSU students or just patrons.
