The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development reminds us that along with the joy and happiness the holidays bring, tragedy might not be far behind.

If something good might come out of this pandemic, could it be that DUI-related crashes are reduced this holiday season? Think about it: if officials are asking people to not gather in large crowds, then maybe the frequency of people driving under the influence might be reduced.

It shouldn't take a pandemic to reduce the number of instances of people operating a vehicle while under the influence; the reduction should come from people making responsible decisions.

One responsible decision that will put an end to OWIs is to not consume anything that would impair your judgment while driving. Another responsible decision is to designate a sober driver. Two easy ways to help eliminate your chances of being arrested or, even worse, causing a crash and taking someone's life.

Let's stay safe so everyone can have a happy Thanksgiving.
