(Lafayette) - Acadiana Waste Services and Lafayette Consolidated Government have announced that 7,000 residents will be seeing a change in their residential garbage collection.

The new changes will begin the week of Monday, August 3, and a grace period will be provided so that all customers can get up to date on the changes.

If you are one of the customers who will have a change in the day for collection, you likely have had a sticker put on your garbage can, an email, or another notification of the change.

How Can You Check to See If Your Lafayette Garbage Collection Day Is Changing

If you haven't received any information about your garbage day changing but would like to know, it's easy to visit this website, lafayettela.gov/wasteupdate, where you can enter your address to quickly find out if your collection day has changed.

The changes will affect both residents in unincorporated areas of Lafayette Parish and in the City of Lafayette.

Why Days of Collection Are Changing for Some Customers

Success is the word to use to describe why the changes are happening, as participation in recycling has nearly doubled since 2023. Officials say there has been an increase in the collection of items from across Lafayette Parish.

With the increase, some routes have become unbalanced, so they are adjusting things to bring them closer to equal volume.

The new collection day will be your day for garbage, yard waste, recycling, and bulky items.
