Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Department Identifies Shooting Victim

The Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office is still investigating a shooting incident that happened in the 300 block of Rials Drive Friday night.

Sheriff's Department Spokeswoman Valerie Ponseti says two people were shot, and deputies were called out to begin their investigation at around 10:30.

Investigators arrived to find that two people had been shot. Both of the victims were taken to a local hospital, but one shooting victim died as a result of the shooting.

Ponseti says officials have identified that victim as 24-year-old Juquan Calais. The other victim received non-life threatening injuries during the shooting.

No other details about the shooting are being given at this time.

Deputies are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
