School Superintendent Dr. Pat Cooper, the subject of a disciplinary hearing Wednesday and Thursday, has been fired by the school board voted 7 to 2 to fired by the Lafayette Parish School Board. Charges against Cooper included the hiring of a maintenance supervisor who did not have a high school diploma, a requirement for that position, although the board approved that hire. He was also accused of paying principals different salaries.  Cooper gave an impassioned speech at the hearing about why he got into education, but the board voted 7 to 2 to fire him and the decision is effective immediately.
