Last week, V. B. Glencoe Charter School, nestled in rural St. Mary Parish just off HWY 90 between New Iberia and Franklin, celebrated 20 years of excellence in education.  CJ and Jenn from CJ and Jenn in the Morning on KTDY were invited to the school's family picnic/freeze party.  The last time there was a freeze party at the school was when JayCee from 99.9 KTDY did one in 1999.

A freeze party was when everyone from a school, business or organization would gather outdoors on Friday mornings to do The Freeze, a dance that is performed to the Ronnie Milsap song, "If You Don't Want Me To".  Ironically, the song was never a hit and Milsap says he only performs it when he plays shows in South Louisiana.  To this day, you can hear "If You Don't Want Me To" played at wedding receptions and bars in and around Lafayette.

20 years ago freeze parties were a big deal on the radio.  Schools and organizations from all over Acadiana requested freeze parties in the 90s and early 2000s.  KTDY used to have a list of freeze party requests sometimes two years in advance. On Friday mornings, JayCee from KTDY would go to the location of the freeze party for that week and broadcast live on the Polyester Power Hour (PPH) a retro music show on 99.9 KTDY in Lafayette, Louisiana.  The PPH is still the number one weekday radio show in the Lafayette market but no longer holds freeze parties.

In 1999, Jaycee appeared at V. B. Glencoe Charter School for one of KTDY's popular freeze parties which aired that morning on 99.9 KTDY.  When faculty was going through old photographs from 20 years ago, they found pictures of JayCee from 1999 and decided to invite KTDY back for the 20th anniversary of the first and only freeze party at V. B. Glencoe Charter School.

The students, faculty and parents also raised over $600.00 for the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society of Louisana, CJ's charity of choice.

"It was a great day at Glencoe Charter today.  There are some really special people in St. Mary Parish.  I love going home.  Thank you to the incredibly nice staff, students and parents of Glencoe Charter", said CJ.  Jenn said she was, "amazed at the love down there".
