WARNING: Louisiana Residents Warned to Avoid 28 Recalled Drinks Because of Harmful Chemicals
LAFAYETTE, La. (KPEL News) - The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued an urgent warning to residents in several states, including Louisiana, regarding a significant recall of some of the nation’s most popular soft drinks due to the presence of dangerous chemicals.
A large portion of the beverages involved in this recall are Pepsico products, specifically some of their well-known root beer and ginger ale varieties.
This recall adds to a growing list of product safety concerns, as this summer has already seen numerous recalls across various industries, mainly due to manufacturing issues.
In this particular case, health officials revealed that over 28 different beverages contained harmful chemical levels that exceeded safety standards during testing conducted from late spring through the summer months.
Among these products, a notable example is a Himalayan pain relief tea. This tea was pulled from shelves because it failed to list an anti-inflammatory medication ingredient on its label, posing a potential health risk to consumers.
Martinelli’s Apple Juice contains noticeable levels of arsenic, a toxic metal that "may increase the risk of bladder and skin cancer."
But that's not all.
"Around 1.9 million bottles of Fiji Water, made by Natural Waters of Viti Limited, were recalled after three types of bacteria were found in the water in addition to the mineral manganese, which in high amounts can cause brain damage," the New York Post reported in June.
What else is being recalled? Lemonades, and cola flavoring products.
And just recently, four drinks produced by Charles Boggini Company called Pink Lemonade, Yellow Lemonade and Yellow Lemonade X, as well as the flavoring Cola Flavoring Base were recalled over food dyes linked to cancer risk.
Those dyes, which were not disclosed by the company as an ingredient, include Red40 and Yellow 5.
The dyes have benzidine, which is carcinogenic to humans and animals.
Schweppes Zero Sugar Ginger Ale and PepsiCo's Mug Root Beer are also on the list, adding some of the biggest names in drink brands to the steadily-growing list of recalled drinks.
