Lafayette, Louisiana Man Arrested for Attempted Murder in Monday Shooting

LAFAYETTE, La. (KPEL News) - Lafayette police have arrested a man wanted in connection with a shooting that left a man in critical condition and a school sheltering in place.

The shooting, which happened earlier today on Felicie Drive in Lafayette, happened close enough to Lafayette High School that students were told to shelter in place temporarily. That order was later rescinded.

The Lafayette Police Department (LPD) later announced the arrest of James Guillory, 45, of Lafayette. He was charged with one count of Attempted Second Degree Murder and booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center.

According to the LPD, Guillory was involved in a verbal altercation with the victim, who remains unidentified. During that argument, he drew a gun and fired at the victim once.

"LPD Officers arrived on scene, established a crime scene, provided medical aid to the victim and apprehended James Guillory," the department said in a statement. "The victim remains in critical condition at a local hospital as a result of the shooting incident."

A shooting around noon on Monday left a man in critical condition, and Lafayette police are seeking answers.

The Lafayette Police Department received a call just before noon on Monday regarding a shooting in progress near the 200 block of Felicie Drive. When they arrived at the scene, they found one victim located at a home in the area.

The victim was suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital and is listed in critical condition. Investigators, meanwhile, are working the scene and trying to develop any leads they can in the case.

Lafayette High School was put into "Shelter in Place" status as a result of the nearby shooting, though no one from the school is suspected to be involved.
