Jerky Recall – Popular Meat Snacks Sold in Louisiana Pose Health Risk
(KMDL-FM) Perhaps it's the outdoor heritage that many residents of Louisiana have in their ancestry, or maybe it's the innate ability that some in Louisiana possess, regardless of the reason. Some of the best meat jerky you'll ever have comes from home chefs in Louisiana.
We say that to say this, from Shreveport to Monroe and Lake Charles to Grand Isle, we love our dried meat snacks here in Louisiana. That's why a nationwide meat jerky recall is pretty big news.

The Springville Meat and Cold Storage company, makers of shelf-stable ready-to-eat beef jerky and beef snack sticks products, elk, venison, and buffalo jerky products, has announced a voluntary recall for some 15,388 pounds of meat products produced at their facility.

The products in question were produced on various dates from May 30, 2023, to May 30, 2025. There are multiple products involved in the recall. To see the labels and product codes associated with this recall, click here.
The recall was reported by the USDA's Food Safety Inspection Service, and the primary reason the products are being recalled is misbranding and undeclared allergens. FSIS inspectors noted that in the production of the products, the manufacturer used Worcestershire Sauce. Now, if you make jerky at home, you probably use that too.
Why Is There a Nationwide Meat Jerky Recall?
The problem is not the Worcestershire Sauce itself but the fact that the seasoning includes anchovies, a known allergen. The company, Springville Meat & Cold Storage, had previously used a brand of Worcestershire Sauce that did not include anchovies. Still, recent production runs revealed the company had begun using a new sauce, and that sauce did contain the suspected allergen (anchovies).
The FSIS has expressed concerns that, because jerky snacks have a very long shelf life, many consumers may have purchased the product and been storing it for later use. If you are a fan of jerky snacks, please check your pantry, especially if you or someone in your family has food allergies.
What Should You Do If You Have Purchased a Product That Has Been Recalled?
If you find you have any of the recalled products, you may return those products to the point of purchase, or you may submit your request for refund or replacement to the company directly.
This recall is listed as a Class II recall, which is a very low-level recall. So far, no confirmed reports of adverse reactions caused by consumption of the product have been reported.
