(KMDL-FM) In a little over two weeks, to quote the late great bluesman Charles Brown, "bells will be ringing". Of course, bluesman Brown was singing of Christmas bells in his iconic holiday classic, Please Come Home For Christmas. The bells we are speaking of are school bells.

A vast majority of school systems in Louisiana will be welcoming students back to class during the second full week in August. If not at that time, then the following week for sure. That has sent many parents on a frantic run to the store this week to pick up school supplies and to see if they can find the appropriate pants and shirt combos that meet and match the dress code standards of their particular school system.

And while students have had the past three months off and away from the anxiety of making the grade in class, many parents have been concerned with the kind of grades their child's school has earned over the past school year.

Where Are Louisiana's Top Public Schools Located?

The website Niche.com is an online resource for parents and students looking to learn more about educational opportunities around them. The site provides in-depth profiles, ratings, and reviews for K-12 schools, colleges, and even the neighborhoods that are close by to these institutions.

The website recently released its findings for the upcoming 2025 school year and ranked the top cities/communities in Louisiana that offer the best educational opportunities for students.

The current Niche.com rankings used information from SAT/ACT Scores, teacher quality, and student and parental reviews to create its list. If you would like to see the in-depth process for how the rankings were calculated, you can find that here.

According to Niche.com's findings, the Top City for Public Schools in Louisiana is the city of Zachary. This community near Baton Rouge was ranked number one according to the Niche.com data. Coming in at number two was Claiborne, with Destrahan ranked number three.

The fourth-ranked city for Top Public Schools in Louisiana was the New Orleans suburb of New Sarpy, followed by Norco at five and Montz at six. The seventh city was Prairieville, followed by West Monroe at eight, Ruston at nine, and rounding out the top ten was Grambling.

Did Any Acadiana Cities Make the List of  Towns with Top Public Schools in Louisiana?

To find an Acadiana town on the Niche.com list, you have to drop all the way to number twenty-one, that's where you'll find Erath. Maurice, Louisiana, checked in at number twenty-four, with Berwick at number twenty-nine, and Kaplan at number thirty-one. The town of Welsh was the only other Acadiana school to make the list. They were in the top 50 at number forty-six.

Remember, these findings were cultivated through a number of sources and resources, so don't get upset if your town didn't rank high or even make the list. Speaking of lists, don't forget those lists of important school supplies for your youngsters, and if you can, pick up a few extras for a kid in need. Let's make it a great school year.
