‘Billion-Dollar’ Powerball Creates Big Lottery Wins in Louisiana
(Baton Rouge, LA) As the Powerball's jackpot continues to be at one billion dollars or higher, it is almost guaranteed that there will be big wins on the state and local level in Louisiana. It's not so much about luck as it is about math. The bigger the jackpot, the more people play. The more people play, the more instances of winning will occur.
To borrow a phrase, there were several instances of winnings in Saturday's Powerball drawing. As you might imagine, interest in the game was significantly higher once casual players learned the game's top prize had topped one billion dollars.

Saturday's Powerball drawing produced five new millionaires and two new multi-millionaires via the Match 5 Million number match scenario. That scenario occurs when a ticket matches all five of the white ball numbers but misses on the Powerball. That is what each of these tickets did.
The big money winners of $2 million were sold in North Carolina and Pennsylvania; they "Matched 5" and opted for the Power Play function of the game. The one million dollar winners who just "Matched 5" without Power Play were sold in California, Florida, Michigan, New Jersey, and Virginia.
