Louisiana Motorcyclist Involved In Serious Crash
Law enforcement officials were called out Thursday night to the 600 block of Rue de Belier Road at its intersection with West Congress Street after a motorcycle and a vehicle collided.
Traffic was snarled as police from the Lafayette Police Department's Traffic Division were called out to find a motorcycle lying on its side at the intersection. This is the latest in a string of serious motorcycle crashes and fatalities in recent months.
A crash Thursday, September involving a motorcyclist, turned into a fatality after that person succumbed to their injuries at a local hospital. A man from Maurice, Ronnie Lee Trahan, was killed on May 2 after a collision between a truck and a motorcycle. These are just two of the multiple crashes that have happened since the beginning of the year.
What Happened at the Intersection of Rue de Belier and West Congress?
According to Lafayette Police Department Senior Corporal Ashley Wood, the crash happened at around 7:44 Thursday night, and traffic investigators began to work to figure out how this crash happened.
Officials with the traffic division say they have initially determined that the motorcyclist was going southbound on Rue de Belier at West Congress in the left-hand turning lane with a green signal. Wood says the light was not displaying a green arrow. The motorcyclist failed to yield to the other driver. The motorcyclist is now said to be in critical but stable condition.
The driver of the vehicle was taken to the Lafayette Police Department where he offered to take a breathalyzer test, and it returned a 0.000g% blood-alcohol content meaning he was not impaired with alcohol.
Just like any other crash, investigators are continuing to look into this crash.
