(KMDL-FM) What does it take for a restaurant in Lafayette, Lake Charles, New Iberia, New Orleans, Baton Rouge, or Shreveport to earn your business? I am going to step out on a limb and say one of your top requirements might be good food.

Followed by good food, come reasonable prices and adequate serving sizes. Also ranking high on the list for most of us would be customer service, and I still think a lot of us require a certain amount of "ambience" to enjoy our meal as well.

As a certain chicken chain found out recently, when you first open, you can expect crowds to line up around the block to come give your food a try. If you haven't delivered or the novelty has worn out, you'd better have some of those aforementioned attributes as part of your business plan if you want to survive.

In Cajun Country, we have a word for a restaurant that offers bad food and awful service at high prices; we call that place "Closed". Think of all of the "beloved" eateries that have shuttered their doors over the past few years; each and every one of them had something about them that customers didn't like. The place didn't make the adjustment, and now the lights are off and the kitchen is dark.

In the world of fast food, staying open can be difficult, especially in South Louisiana. Just ask anyone who has attempted to find success with a KFC or Hardee's franchise. Still, in the highly competitive world of drive-thru dollars, how can a franchisee compete in today's economic climate?

What Louisiana Restaurant Is Offering Free Food Every Friday?

Yeah, there is a restaurant chain with 125 different stores across the state that is doing just that. Every Friday between now and the end of the year, customers of Wendy's Restaurants can get free food. Okay, they can get free fries for "Fryday".

In order to get your free fries, you have to place your order through the Wendy's App, and there are restrictions. But before you go toodling down the road to find Dave Thomas's little "red-haired" girl, ask yourself this question.

Even if they're free, are Wendy's fries overpriced? In a recent social media survey, we found out that Wendy's fries don't evoke a lot of passion. People go crazy for McDonald's Fries, they either love or hate Arby's fries, the fries at Raising Cane's get soggy between the pickup window and the dinner table, and the seasoned fries at Checkers have their very vocal and passionate audience.

It's very seldom that Wendy's or Sonic get a mention on their french fries, but at least at Wendy's, you can get free fries every "Fryday" if you have the app.

Fast-Food Fries - Ranked Healthiest to Unhealthiest

The best side dish for a burger is NOT coleslaw. If someone tells you that, walk away and go find a place that is serving up french fries.

"Healthy" and "French Fries" don't typically go together. It is common knowledge that although a fry is from a potato, it doesn't make it as healthy as a green, leafy salad.

If you are still reaching for a fry and now you are curious how "healthy" it really is, Cheapism did the research for you and ranked over 20 fast-food chains' fries from the healthiest to unhealthiest.
