Coming Soon – Costco Only Does it 7 Times a Year

(KMDL-FM) Giant warehouse retailer Costco has something special planned. How special? Well, they only do it seven times a year, so that would lead us to believe the event is pretty special for both customers and the folks who work at Costco.

Granted, there are a lot of special things at Costco. Based on the comments that you've left us about the store, you seem to enjoy the customer service. Many of you have spoken of the new convenient checkout method they are using. We still receive numerous comments about the food court at Costco. I have never tried one of their hot dogs, but if I ever have the chance to do so, I will take it.

If you're not familiar with the way "warehouse clubs" like Costco and Sam's Club work, it truly is as if you are purchasing a membership in a "buyers club". You pay a small fee every year for a membership. That membership grants you entry and shopping privileges in the store.

What Are The Different Membership Levels Available at Warehouse Shopping Clubs?

There are different levels of membership that are offered not only at Costco but at Sam's Club as well. If you pay a little more, you might get a little more. For example, the premium members at Costco get special shopping hours and other incentives that, for some, would make the extra money spent on the front end worth the "price of admission."

There was actually a "mild stink" about Costco enforcing those special shopping hours for premium members earlier this year. The company simply decided to crack down on a policy that was already in place, and that seemed to irk some of the non-premium members who had grown accustomed to the unpaid perk.

Many fans of the "club membership model" for retail feel that the fact that they pay for the privilege of shopping means the store should always be open for their convenience. Costco does its best to keep the doors of its warehouse club open for shoppers as much as it can.

However, the people who work at Costco are human too, and they need a break as well, which is why Costco will be doing something on Thursday; it only does seven other times over the course of their retail year.

Will Costco Be Closed on Christmas Day and New Year's Day?

Costco will be closed for Christmas Day. They will also close their doors on New Year's Day. The other days that you can't shop at Costco in person are Easter Sunday, Memorial Day, Labor Day, and Thanksgiving Day.

Other than those days, the doors will be open regular hours for regular members and premium hours for premium members. Happy shopping and Merry Christmas.
