$842 Million Powerball Jackpot Won – Louisiana Ticket Worth $50K

The New Year's Night drawing of the multi-state lottery game Powerball has produced some very lucky beginnings for some lucky ticket holders. The Louisiana Lottery has confirmed that one of the big money wins in Monday's drawing did come from Louisiana.

The Powerball jackpot at the time of last night's drawing was an estimated $842 million. If you did not see the drawing, here's how it unfolded on January 1, 2024.

Texas players fared very well in the New Year's Day drawing. Tickets sold in Texas earned Match 5 Prizes of $1 million and $2 million. The Texas Lottery has confirmed the $2 million winner was sold in Laredo Texas but we don't have details on the 1 million dollar ticket's point of purchase. There were also three $150,000 winners and six $50,000 winners from Monday's Powerball game in Texas.

The Louisiana Lottery has also confirmed a big win in The Boot. Lottery officials say a ticket sold in New Orleans at Super Serve #1 on South Claiborne matched four of the five white ball numbers and the Powerball to earn a prize of $50,000. The Louisiana Lottery has also confirmed that 27 tickets sold for last night's game earned a prize of $100 while another 10 tickets earn three times that amount because of the Power Play option.

Where Was the Winning Powerball Ticket Sold

According to reports the single ticket that matched all the numbers needed to claim the $842 million jackpot was sold in Grand Blanc, Michigan. Grand Blanc is located just south of the city of Flint. Powerball officials say the ticket was purchased at a grocery store there.

By rule, the next Powerball jackpot will begin at $20 million for Wednesday night's drawing. There will also be drawings for Lotto with a $1.9 million top prize and Easy 5 which boasts a jackpot of $100,000.

Tonight, January 2, 2024, the Mega Millions game will hold its first drawing of the new year. The top prize in Mega Millions is an estimated $114 million. The drawing is at 10 tonight.
