Is This About to Become Eta? Hurricane Season 2020 Continues
Please put down your weapons and your sharp pointed words and do not kill the messenger. I have some potentially bad news for anyone who is sick and tired of tropical weather and the seemingly never-ending hurricane season that is 2020.
As we and the rest of the world watched yet another tropical cyclone move onshore in Louisiana late yesterday I am sure many of you uttered, at least under your breath, "this has got to be the last one of the season", right?
Well, apparently Mother Nature is saying "not so fast my friends". An area of disturbed weather in the western Caribbean Sea is expected to have the potential to spin up into yet another tropical cyclone. That part of the ocean is a typical hotbed for development this time of the year, so it's not totally unexpected to see tropical formation late in the season.
Forecasters with the National Hurricane Center are giving this area of disturbed weather a 40% chance for development over the next five days. Now, should the system develop into a tropical cyclone and earn a name it would be called Eta.
One well-respected forecaster, I have spoken to told me off the record that many of the long-range forecast models he ascribes to do show the system developing but they do not show the system moving into the Gulf of Mexico. But please remember, at this point, this is conjecture and speculation, and long-range tropical models are like political promises, don't expect them to actually come true.
Again, our mission is not to frighten or make you mad, our mission is to inform and alert you to potential situations that could affect your family and your safety. We will watch this system for further development over the next five days. In the meantime, get out your gumbo pots and enjoy the cool fall weather we know we're going to have for the next few days.
