Is it bad for your plants to water them in full sun?  Fact or myth?

The temperatures in Acadiana have reach triple digits this Summer as this heatwave continues.  Everything is strained during these high temperatures.  Car dashboards, air conditioners and plants are taking a beating.  Car dashboards can be saved by not parking in direct sunlight.  To help your air conditioner keep up, you might close blinds, raise your thermostat and make sure doors aren't left open.  But what about plants?

For years, locals have said never water plants in the heat of the day.  But what if they are so dry they are wilting?  Should you still wait till the sun goes down?
