Forecasters say a storm system currently pushing across North Texas and the Southern Plains will slide across South Louisiana during the day today. That system should provide enough instability in the atmosphere to create a slight risk of severe storms across almost all of Louisiana.

The Storm Prediction Center says the area at risk has been expanded to include the entire state. The threat of strong storms, damaging winds, and even tornadoes should exist across the state from early this morning until much later this evening.

The latest radar scan from the National Weather Service office in Lake Charles is already showing strong storms moving out of Texas into Southwest and West Central Louisiana early this morning.  Many of these storms have already prompted severe weather warnings.

Residents are encouraged to remain weather conscious and stay close to local radio and television for the latest weather information. Should threatening weather conditions be sighted you should already have plans in place to move to a place of safety until the storms have passed.

Forecast models suggest that much of the area could see 1 to 2 inches of rainfall before the system exits the region early Friday. There will be a potential for some localized street flooding as a result of heavier downpours.
